History

The club has existed and operated at its current venue in Lord Roberts Road since 1946.
The range was purpose built in 1907 and is Beverley's only surviving range.
It was originally a 100 yd full-bore range which partially occupied the Law Courts site and had a billiard room, caretaker cottage and kitchen attached and was a prestigious club.

An Extract.................................

Beverley like many other historic 'garrison towns', had an indoor rifle range would have been essential for training would-be soldiers.
It was originally 100 yards long until the Council wanted some of it back.
Its history is hazy in places.
The club in its present form restarted just after the War in '47,
the break then was for obvious reasons.
Before and after the Great War, I have been told that it became more of a social club for the snobbish and wealthy daughters of army Generals and Brigadiers, it had a bit of an exclusive air about it
which was looked down upon by various people.
But, I quite like that idea, and I can only imagine them sipping tea and telling stories of how they watched 'Daddy' as he shot tigers and elephants in India.

Membership currently stands at about 80 members split almost equally between the two disciplines.
The club has Home Office approval to operate the range and as such must operate under strict facilities, health and safety, and security guidelines.

The range has an exemplary safety record and has a strong relationship with Humberside Police

The rifle section is open to adults and juniors aged 12+ years.

The 25 yard range is used for indoor target shooting with members participating in a range of competitions at all levels from friendly individual leagues to Inter-county match cards.

Coaching is available at all levels and beginners are asked to come on Monday evenings for initial coaching.
The club has a selection of rifles, jackets and ancillary equipment freely available for use by all members until such time that members may choose to acquire their own items.

Member’s subscriptions include subscription to the National Small-bore Rifle Association (NSRA) who organise many of the competitions and provide third party insurance cover.

The NSRA also organise National Shoulder to Shoulder to shoots at several venues around the country and offer coaching courses for those wishing to become coaches or simply wanting to improve their skill at arms.
Members taking up these opportunities include one lady who was in the Reserves for 1996 Olympic Ladies Squad!

Coaching course fees may be met by the club for members wishing to use these skills within the club.
